Posted on July 28, 2011 at 1:27 pm by Joe Moore under Thundercats Toy News

Bandai has announced that the Thundercats 2011 toys are now in stores. We have received the following press release.

“ThunderCats, Hooo!” : New ThunderCats Toy Line Roars Into Retail Stores Nationwide

CYPRESS, Calif. – July 28, 2011 – A new generation of fans and a legion of dedicated collectors are roaring “ThunderCats, Hooo!” with the highly anticipated launch of the new ThunderCats toy line from Bandai America Incorporated and Warner Bros. Consumer Products (WBCP). Timed to the debut of ThunderCats, the new re-imagined animated series from Warner Bros. Animation, the action-packed toys are now available at retail locations nationwide. ThunderCats begins with an hour-long special premiere event on Friday, July 29, at 8 p.m. (ET, PT) on Cartoon Network. Following the premiere, the half-hour show will air regularly on Cartoon Network Friday nights at 8:30 p.m. (ET, PT) beginning August 5.

One of the most iconic animated series of the 1980s and a continuing pop culture force, ThunderCats is an epic tale of a young hero’s journey to fulfill his ultimate destiny. The new ThunderCats series follows Lion-O, the young heir to the throne, who embarks on a great quest to take his rightful place as king. The kingdom of Thundera is threatened by the evil sorcerer Mumm-Ra, and Lion-O, the unlikely champion, must work with his faithful comrades Tygra, Cheetara, Panthro, WilyKat, WilyKit and his loyal pet, Snarf, on his journey to save their world from darkness.

The ThunderCats toy line from Bandai America Incorporated and WBCP brings the magic and adventure of the ThunderCats’ journey to kids and fans of the new and classic series. The new toys fuse sci-fi and sorcery to reignite the thrill of the iconic series, and Bandai’s innovative ThunderLynx magnet activation technology, featured in the 4” figures, vehicles and play sets, brings favorite characters and settings from the animated series to life with interactive lights, sounds and actions.

“As this sweeping story of heroism takes on a 21st century re-imagination, Bandai America is thrilled to offer fans a chance to experience the ThunderCats adventure through our innovative collection of toys,” said Mark Schaffner, Executive Vice President of Toys for Bandai America Incorporated. “Each item in the ThunderCats toy line is crafted with great attention to detail and designed to provide an interactive, imaginative play experience for fans of all ages.”

“ThunderCats is set to thrill a new generation of fans and Bandai is the perfect partner to bring the show to life through their imaginative toy offerings,” said Karen McTier, Executive Vice President of Domestic Licensing and Worldwide Marketing for Warner Bros. Consumer Products. “From action figures to vehicles and fantastic role playing, Bandai’s lineup showcases the exciting world and characters of ThunderCats.”

Featured products in the ThunderCats toy line include (For ages 4+):

4” Basic Figure ($7.99 SRP): Crafted with great detail and quality, collectors and kids can play with or display their favorite ThunderCats heroes and villains in their own environment and recreate scenes from the animated series with these dynamic figures. Each 4” figure comes with a weapon and/or an accessory that is unique to the character. All 4” figures feature ThunderLynx magnet technology, which allows the toys to interact with, and activate unique features in, multiple ThunderCats products, including the Deluxe ThunderTank.

Deluxe ThunderTank with Snarf ($29.99 SRP): Roll into battle with the Deluxe ThunderTank and 4” Snarf figure. Kids’ favorite ThunderCats figure can ride inside and unlock special ThunderTank features, including “ThunderCats, Hooo!” sound effects, with the embedded ThunderLynx magnet technology. For serious action, launch ThunderRacers from the ThunderTank with the push of a button.

Deluxe Sword of Omens ($19.99 SRP): Wield the power of Lion-O and become a ThunderCat with the mystic Sword of Omens! With an extendable blade, lights and sounds, kids can let their imaginations roar with Lion-O, on his destined path to become king.

8” Collector Figure ($16.99 SRP): Based on the classic 1980s animated “ThunderCats” series, these highly detailed figures are ideal for collectors and animation fans. Each 8” figure features 18 points of articulation and comes with the character’s iconic weapon.

ThunderCats fans can celebrate the premiere of the show and the launch of the toy line at their own lair with a free “Viewing Party Pack.” The digital party pack includes themed games, recipes, cool art and souvenirs – all the elements fans will need for the ultimate ThunderCats viewing party. Good to know. I'll have to keep an eye out for them the next time I'm out. Kinda funny how the 6" figures aren't mentioned at all. As much as I'm looking forward to the Classic figures, I'll probably get some of the 4" figures first. At the very least I'll get the 4" Lion-O.

I'm still not sold on the Thundertank. Really, if it wasn't for Snarf, I wouldn't have an issue skipping it entirely. I'm hoping he gets released again at a smaller price point.

I honestly would not expect to find anything at retail until stores get around to doing their new toy modulars (Target is supposed to be next week, Walmart will do it whenever they get around to it)

I honestly don't expect to see anything for at least a week or so, which is why I've refrained from going out and doing some hunting. When they do it, it'll be interesting to see how well stores decide to stock them. I'm hoping they end-up stocked pretty well, and that they don't get overshadowed by other action figure lines.

I saw them on Amazon when they first appeared...and didn't grab them like a total f'ing idiot. What is just the SUPREME asshole move though, is "toy stores" buying them from Amazon and then turning around and selling them on the Amazon marketplace for SUPER asshole marked up prices. If that's not the definition of a Scalper, I don't know what is.

They won't be sold at target... the toy designer at comic con told me that target passed on thundercats. Which I thought was surprising. They only have the dvds of the original series.

She also informed me 3 weeks from comic con they would be in stores. I was able to snag a Lion-O and a Tygra from her... just answered some trivia. and she was handing some out.... but you had to answer the question correctly... my question was, what is the name of the sword?

Dunno what to say to the target comment I bought some off their website. They were definatley there. I think they are going to carry them...I could be wrong. Walmart is listed as a seller on the bandai site and they don't have them online at all. Not arguing just saying I have them here at my house. Targewe has the online retailer that had the tower of omens listed

That's kinda sad. I've usually been a big fan of Target. Doesn't really make sense for them to skip Thundercats, but oh well. It'll be their loss I guess. Looks like Walmart and K-Mart will be getting more of my business in the coming years.

Kmart.com is operated by the Nazis lol. I find it funny that Target passed on having the new Thundercat toys in their stores. They seem to carry most Bandai toys too. Guess I only have the one Toys R Us and 3 Walmarts near me that I can check. My guess is that this week online stores and non-online stores will be getting them. I'm not one for collecting 4" inch figures but I may just get the basic Thundercat characters. Only want Lion-O in the 6" inch line. The deluxe sword of omens is a must buy for me. Thing is at Comic Con the poster that had the deluxe on it had November 2011 on it so it may not be coming out until then while most online places are showing a August release date. Also it kind of sucks that the only way you can get Snarf is buying the ThunderTank which is $29.99. Oh well good luck to anyone who is trying to find them this week.

Do NOT order from Kmart.com! I spent a month going back and forth with them trying to order 7 new Captain America and Thor figures a while back and they sent me the wrong figures twice, with me explaining the UPC numbers didn't match up with their inventory numbers, and both times they assured me the problem was fixed. The THIRD time I ordered the products, they sent me an email saying they were sorry but that the products were mis-labeled and NONE of the items were in stock. All of the items are still currently "In Stock" on their website. They're finks, and when they refunded my money they gave me back less than I paid and when I tried to get all my money back they wanted me to jump through all sorts of hoops. TERRIBLE SERVICE.

And no Thundercats toys 'round here
