Extremely Rare Alternate LJN Mumm-Ra Prototype

Posted on November 18, 2011 at 11:23 am by Joe Moore under Thundercats Toy News

We don’t normally front page threads from our Thundercats Buy/Sell/Trade Forum. Today we are making an exception for a very rare item. Forum member LiarDice Films, who previously supplied us with the art for our last contest, is selling a one-of-a-kind LJN prototype. It’s for an alternate, unused, sculpt of Mumm-Ra.

The piece is a one-of-a-kind LJN hardcopy of Mumm ra and is an amazing and unique alternative sculpture, which never made it to production. Most likely it was for a more ‘cartoon realistic’ version that possibly would have had the black cape attached to the hands and back. The owner of this had it cased up for protection and i do say it displays extremely well. Also has a COA (certificate of authenticity) with it.

If you are interested in this amazing piece, it can be YOURS! Simply visit the sales thread for details.

Cartoon Network Thundercats Display At SDCC 2011

Posted on July 22, 2011 at 11:52 am by Joe Moore under Thundercats Conventions News

Cartoon Network had a very nice Thundercats display at San Diego Comic-Con 2011. They had all of the previously announced Thundercats 2011 figures on display. They also had some of the original Thundercats toys on display, though it does not appear to be for reissues (bummer). There is a fantastic look at some of the casting masters used to create some of the upcoming role-play toys, as well as production notes on some of the toys.

Thundercats Never Before Seen Concept Art

Posted on July 7, 2011 at 6:21 pm by Joe Moore under Thundercats Cartoon News

Once again, forum member LiarDice Films has been kind enough to share a piece of Thundercats history with us. Today we exclusively have never before seen concept art from the Original Thundercats Cartoon Series. The art was created by the great Jim Meskimen. You may recognize Jim as an accomplished voice actor, who has appeared in numerous projects such as G.I. Joe Renegades, Avatar: The Last Air Bender, Justice League as well as numerous video games. Jim is also known as a fantastic illustrator.

According to LiarDice Films, Jim was the sole U.S. artist working with Rankin Bass. Some of his work, as you can see, made it into the television show as well as other media. Some of the ideas were never used.

Now you can check out, what is only a sampling, of some of Jim Meskimen’s superb concept art for the original Thundercats. Click the headline of the story for a huge gallery of images.
