So what figures will you be collecting when the new figures hit?
I reckon there's essentially 3 choices (ignoring the original figures and the new 6" Bandai ones).
3.75" new style figures Considering the limited amount of space I have, these are the most convenient. Thing is though, I'm not convinced about the new anime style, but I do like the idea of getting the Thundertank and the Cat's Lair.
I liken this new style to Transformers Animated, which is pretty much anime style versions of the classic characters. I don't dislike it, but I'm much more attached to my Classics toys. (Though admittedly that might be different if I'd ever seen the cartoon.)
6" Staction figures Most expensive option and, well, they're statues. I reckon it's the option where we're most likely to get all the characters (Jaga, Monkian, Lynx-O, etc). Two in that list are guaranteed.......
8" retro style figures Posable, classic styling, but 8" so not in scale with any other figures I own.
I can actually cope with the 8" thing despite the space concerns, but this is Bandai (will we ever see the rest of those 4" MMPR figures?), does anyone think we'll see all the characters we want?
I have given this a fair amount of thought and keep switching between the options - what do I care least about, the style, posability (of any sort), or scale and character selection?
There's also (in my mind at least) a fairly good chance we'll see classic style 3.75" or 6" (posable) figures at some point - I reckon Warner Bros's deal with Icon Heroes prevents it at the moment but when it expires I reckon the demand could still be there.
Today I'm going to opt for the Staction figures, tomorrow I might change my mind.
I'm going to start with the classic ones first. I've been wanting an update to this line for a long time.
I'm going 8" but primacron there are also 6" fully articulated figures based on the new toon and they look bad ass
For me, I'd start with the 8" Retro figs first, then possibly follow up with either the 3.75" or 6" Modern figs, depending on how they look in person.
Going with the Classics and, likely, the 6" modern. Both look fantastic.
What's the release date again for these? Was it September?
Just got an email from BBTS saying that my pre-order (for the 8" figures) will be cancelled. I quote:
Joking aside, I'm sure these will be released in Europe so it'll be fine, but it's really quite shitty of Bandai USA to do this.
absolute winkers. we get such a raw deal elsewhere in the world when it comes to figures. we hardly get anything and when / if we do, its months and months later and the prices are always alot higher than in the states!!! grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
I really hope this doesn't indicate a new trend whereby manufacturers put pressure on online retailers dictating what they can and can not sell, and to whom they can sell it.
New Thundercats 2011 TV Spot From Cartoon Network
New tv series trailer. Awesome!
Cancelled Thundercats Movie Concept Art and Storyboards
Art is by Dave Bullock, who works on Transformers: Prime and has done work for Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Teen Titans and more.
The artwork for the new series certainly captured by attention, but the few "Thundercats Classics" toys that have been previewed so far (Tygra & Liono) are easy passes for me. IMO, the detail, colorations, & paint apps seem targeted more toward kids who may not have any idea what/who they are than adult collectors.
They are improvements on the original vintage figures.
The Panthro figure will go a long way to determining whether I will be collecting this line. Are photos of this fig as yet available for view across the internetz?

I'll likely go for an 8" Mum-Ra, since being a bad guy, he can be oversized. I want to collect the small scale stuff, since aside from TFs, those are my main bread and butter. But I just ain't sure of Bandai of America's product. Hopefully they'll be serviceable.
I really want the Classics line to be chock full of awesomeness ... but I too im a tad bit concerned of Bandais product ... both their QC and their commitment to the line and if the dont completely pull a 200x mattel and wreck things with case packs then im in!
Whoah! TigerSharks and Silverhawks in the next episode of Thundercats!
ThunderCats Episode 7 Clip Legacy Reveals SilverHawks And TigerSharks
The show Mon*Star from Silverhawks and Mako from TigerSharks.
Seeing Mon Star was awesome! I'm giddy now but also annoyed. I want a Silverhawks return now.
they need to release a classic mumra.
Apparently they will be releasing 8 classics figures next year - 2 per quarter. It's hard to imagine that that won't include Cheetara, Panthro and Mumm-Ra.
My prediction for an SDCC exclusive next year will be ghost Jaga.
