Bandai Interview – Storm Charger Confirmed, Silverhawks and TigerSharks Possible

Posted on September 1, 2011 at 12:12 pm by Joe Moore under Thundercats Toy News

MTV Geek interviewed Bandai about the Thundercats toy lines. In it, they talk about their partnership with Warner Bros., as well as some of the things planned for next year. Two quotes will get fans super excited:

“The team here at Bandai cheered with excitement when we saw Mumm-Ra’s Storm Charger blaze onto the TV screen last week. We have that high-powered vehicle of evil planned to launch in early 2012 as a counterpoint to the ThunderTank. Bandai works hand-in-hand with Warner Brothers to identify great toy concepts early in the production of the show and we certainly share ideas back and forth to ensure we are delivering toys based on what the show promises. The team at Warner Brothers just gets it, they know what can work as a toy and encourage our involvement in the process. It’s a great partnership that is only getting stronger.”

“When Warner Brothers initially mentioned that they were considering bringing back and incorporating the SilverHawks and TigerSharks the whole team at Bandai was very excited and it immediately got our wheels turning. Almost anything that appears in the show we are able to create as a toy, so the idea of integrating these unique characters into the show, again expands the overall universe to pull from. More to come on our plan for the ever-expanding toy line.”

Thundercats 2011 Jackalman Revealed In Interview

Posted on August 31, 2011 at 1:46 pm by Joe Moore under Thundercats Cartoon News

MTV Geek has an interview with Thundercats 2011 Designer Dan Norton. Along with the interview are looks at some of his designs. Included is our first look at the new Jackalman! In the interview, Norton talks about his design influences, his approach and what he’s looking to bring to the young series.

“When I’m looking for reference, I pull a lot from nature: national monuments, photography, live photos—I mean really, there’s a lot of nature that’s already impressive. So just going into an entirety of being a fan of all sorts of fantasy shows, cartoons, movies—you know, one of my favorite movies was Conan the Barbarian. There’s just so many different cartoons, more than I could probably name. I was a big fan of Escaflowne, Record of Lodoss War, all of those rich, fantasy cartoons. Even the old school Rankin Bass [movie] The Last Unicorn and Lord of the Rings, you know, just seeing that and feeding on it for so many years and then seeing people pushing the limit in other shows—you just take what inspires you and add your own edge to it.”

Name Of Mumm-Ra’s Tank And More Info

Posted on August 29, 2011 at 11:03 am by Joe Moore under Thundercats Cartoon News

Forum member Icespark was able to get some info from a producers Thundercats live chat. Here’s what he provided:

• Thundercat nobles do not cut off their own tails, but are born without them.

• The Cat ship in eipsode 6 is not the Feliner, just a standard Cat fighter jet.

• Mumm-Ra’s Mummy-Mobile is officially called the Storm-Charger; we will eventually see why it has that name.

• None of the episodes are being written as filler. Each episode will have part of the whole story.

• That’s about all the information I was able to retrieve. It was also mentioned that the crew might set up something of a weekly chat, presumably after each episode, on their official page.
