KidsWB updated their website to add an all new Thundercats sub-section. The site features the intro video we’ve seen before, along with some screen caps. They also have “Party Packs” which you can download and print to use as an activity book for the kids, introducing them to the Thundercats universe and characters.

Cartoon Network has released a new commercial for the upcoming Thundercats cartoon, set to premiere on July 29th, 2011. Some new footage is mixed in with what we have previously seen. Take a look below.

We’re just two and a half weeks away from the premiere of Thundercats 2011.
This week’s edition of IGN’s Thundercats Thursday’s takes a look at the more mature take on the Thundercats mythology. IGN talks with producers Michael Jelenic and Ethan Spaulding about giving the new series a more epic feel and a darker tone.
“Because it became a cliche to take an 80’s property and make it ‘darker’ or edgier. Give the characters skateboards or something. Our take is definitely darker but we’ve put a lot more focus on the characters and the arc and because of that we might have a few more sophisticated themes going on in this. It feels more like a movie. If I had to compare it. The old show felt more like a Saturday morning animated series and this feels more like movie.”

Once again, forum member LiarDice Films has been kind enough to share a piece of Thundercats history with us. Today we exclusively have never before seen concept art from the Original Thundercats Cartoon Series. The art was created by the great Jim Meskimen. You may recognize Jim as an accomplished voice actor, who has appeared in numerous projects such as G.I. Joe Renegades, Avatar: The Last Air Bender, Justice League as well as numerous video games. Jim is also known as a fantastic illustrator.
According to LiarDice Films, Jim was the sole U.S. artist working with Rankin Bass. Some of his work, as you can see, made it into the television show as well as other media. Some of the ideas were never used.

Now this is something really great to see. Thundercats.ws Forum Member LiarDice Films (you’ll notice his name a lot today, be sure to thank him) shared an awesome gift he received from the great Larry Kenny (original Lion-O and new King Claudus). Cartoon Network’s Thundercats Website has seen a massive overhaul. They have added the new TV Spot, character bios, a music sampling from the series, desktop wallpapers and more. The wallpapers are available in various sizes, but those with HD Resolutions should stick to the Thundercats.ws HD Wallpapers, since these max out at 1280×1024.

LION-O
Lord of the ThunderCats, Lion-O is a fearless leader who’s ready to jump into the fight, even when it gets him in trouble. He wields the mighty Sword of Omens, the most powerful weapon on Third Earth.
TYGRA
Lion-O’s adopted older brother Tygra can best his sibling in most things, yet is jealous of Lion-O’s claim to the royal crown. In combat, Tygra uses his whip to turn invisible and is an expert marksman.
CHEETARA
Trained by the wizard Jaga, Cheetara is a powerful magician and the last living Cleric. She’s also the fastest cat in Thundera and an expert in many forms of combat, including staff fighting.
WILEYKIT & WILEYKAT
Crafty and resourceful, Wilykat and Wilykit are two young orphans who were struggling to survive in the streets of Thundera. Now, they’ve joined Lion-O and the others on their epic quest.
MUMM-RA
The very essence of evil, Mumm-Ra is a powerful sorceror with a vast army of minions. He seeks the same ancient artifacts as the ThunderCats and will destroy anyone or anything that stands in his way.
